These Are The Times

We sat down with Jim Scaparotti to talk about his career and his latest single, here’s what he had to say;

“I’ve written many songs over the years – in coffee shops, church pews, living rooms… on airplanes, city streets, park benches, in car seats… strummed on guitars, hummed on mini tape recorders. After focusing mostly on business endeavors and family over the past 30 years, the March 2020 pandemic arrived on the scene. But for me , kind of like TINMAN getting oil after being stuck for so long, everything “moved.” I found myself with a lot of time, and instead of listening to the “noise” and becoming isolated, I sought solitude and used the time to renew spiritually and to engage my passion for music and songwriting. I purchased my first recording software (DAW) and watched countless hours of YouTube videos trying to learn the complex art of making music at home. I recorded a few songs featuring yours truly on vocals, bass, and guitars, adding simple drums from an app. I recorded “These are the Times” and thought, “that doesn’t sound too bad, but realized “I really suck at programming drums.” Which led to a series of connections to world-class musicians and talent in Nashville which came together so effortlessly. Lord knows I tried to make things happen on my own over many years – songs sent to labels, producers, artists, publishers, songwriting contests; open mic nights; a band called “Sketch” playing Cleveland bars like The Grog Shop and Euclid Tavern on the 90’s. So after all this, if you decide to listen, I really appreciate it.”
