We both resonated with the idea of trying to get out of a toxic relationship and decided to write about it. For me, I was writing about my relationship with my eating disorder. Every time I try to leave it behind, I start to miss it. Even though I know it isn’t good for me. For him, he had been watching a close friend go through a terrible relationship where they were being manipulated and couldn’t leave. While writing, we both focused on our own manipulative relationship story and made sure every lyric fit both topics.
